"Zoooounds! Does this device really let you talk to anyone, anywhere, and also record messages for later, be it audibly or textually? I guess we'll find out! So leave your messages here for me, Graham, future Knight of Daventry, and I'll try to get back to you when I can! Okay! Thanks! Hope this works! Bye!"

Which of the illustrious candidates will rise to the top to secure their spot as a member of the Daventry Guard? Only one way to find out!

The Well Behind the Town; Daventry; Tuesday Afternoon [05/07].

After a bit of exploring and asking around, Graham had discovered a rumor about that well back behind the town and some strange sounds and activities. It definitely seemed to be enough to check out, and, once he'd used a helpful tool from Amaya to clear the way, he discovered he wasn't the only Knight Hopeful who had the same idea. The strong silent archer from a far-away land, the one known only as the word he repeated often when addressed, Achaka, was there at the well when Graham arrived, preparing to decend into it.

It caused him, for a moment, to pause, uncertain. Should he find another path? Where else would he find a hideous beast eye? The dark forest, where the snarling snarlaxes were said to dwell? The dark caverns east of town? What if there were several hideous beasts down below that well? Perhaps they could help each other? Graham was already here. No turning back! And as Amaya would say, fortune did favor the bold, right?

Right! Graham hurried forward and Achaka, for his part, lifted a hand and wiggled his fingers at Graham in a wave as he slowly lowered himself down the rope to descend into the well. He would be a few steps behind, but he was really hoping there would be a beast down there, especially if Achaka was already headed that way, and he wanted the sort of eye that would really impress everyone.

The Dueling Archers - CW for NPC death )

Safe now, outside the cave, Graham just sat there, trying to catch his breath, staring at the opening from which he'd just emerged. Realizing that he hadn't gone in there alone, but he had, undeniably, emerged entirely solo. And then all hopes of catching his breath were lost as he tears started to fall, and the tears turned into sobs, and the sobs turned into the anger and the pain of the harsh reality of what had just occured. He reached up to snatch the adventure's cap from his head, scrambled to his feet, and threw it down, the emotions rolling through him almost impossible to contain, and feeling as though his entire perspective, his entire world, has completely and irrevocably changed forever.

The Kingdom of Daventry; Tuesday [05/07] - Day TWO of the Tournament of Knights!

Good morning! It's another beautiful day in Daventry, a day where the brilliant color of the sunrise across the sky is as rich and colorful as the trees that spread across the valley. Hopefully, no one else had their beds mysteriously stolen in the middle of the night! It's a big day for our small cadre of Hopeful Knights--the bold and braggadocios ~Whisper~, the small and scheming Manny, big and brash Acorn, mysterious and menacing Achaka, and, of course, Graham, who was honestly just happy to be there--as they seek out their true test of worth to be considered for the Daventry Guard: the eye of a hideous beast! Will they be able to obtain such a prize by the deadline? Only time will tell, and they'll likely be hard at work accomplishing their goal!

As for everyone else? Well, you've got a day of either helping, hindering, or just enjoying Daventry at this time of year! Be cautious, though! With the bridges out, there's plenty of wetzel wolves in a frenzy around the woods, unable to migrate to Serenia as they would like to, and, with the bridges out, travel around the realm is a bit restricted, too. It doesn't help that even the Fantastical Floating Island, one of Daventry's top billed tourist attractions, is closed for the day in preparation for one of the events tomorrow! But there's still good friends, beautiful vistas, and fun to be had in the Kingdom of Daventry.

Adventure is, after all, where you find it!

[[ and, of course, for all those in Daventry with him, NFB for distance, and with the usual OCD! ]]

The Kingdom of Daventry; Monday [05/06] - Day ONE of the Tournament of Knights!

It was a beautiful, gorgeous day in Daventry. Birds were chirping, the sun was shining, there was a touch of a breeze blowing through the thick canopy of trees that spread over the lush land, while adorable critters frollicked and played. It was just the sort of day to usher in the beginning of a great and exciting Tournament of Knights! The Daventry Inn was ready to open its doors to visitors from far and wide, competitors and spectators alike! Come one, come all, for the time had come, for the Tournament to begin.

Settled among majestic mountains and thick, mysterious woods, the Kingdom of Daventry called for the bold, the brave, and the wise, under the watchful eye of its impressive castle. The bridges over its many roaring rivers might be out, making journeying too far beyond the village and the castle grounds a bit difficult, but the call of adventure was in the air, and, in a few short days, there would be a new knight amongst their ranks. Who would find themselves with this new prestigious title? Only time would tell!

[[ it's time, it's time! Come one, come all (especially if you've gotten an invitation, but even then, the portal is very open! Day one of the tournament! NFB for distance, OCD is up! Today is mostly a lot of "interact with the NPCs and each other" day, with the exception of when I get the chance to post plot-related things later in the day. Huzzah! ]]

Room 239; Thursday After Classes [04/18].

Graham's mother had sent him some very nice clothes for him to wear for the prom coming up, and they were, of course, perfect. But, well, since Graham was hopefully about to finish up his time here at Fandom soon by becoming a Knight of the Realm in a few weeks, he definitely wanted to do something extra special for his prom ensemble, and so he was busy at work on the floor by the bed, with a scattering of cloth and fabric and needles and thread, as he set to putting those costuming lessons from knight school to good use for one last look.

He very frequently paused, held up what he was working on, tilted his head thoughtfully, and then either nodded and continued what he was doing or shook his head and decided to take it a different direction.

It was probably a good thing that he'd left Triumph down in the stable for this, since he did like to root around in Graham's fabrics and try to eat them, but Graham couldn't help but think this would be a little easier if Triumph was here so he could work off of more than just measurements for the great little outfit he was going to give him for the dance!

Were trusty steeds allowed as prom dates? He didn't know! But he was going to find out! And he had to make sure if Triumph was coming with him, that he looked spectacular!

Room 239; Saturday Afternoon [03/23].

Graham was seated on his bed, legs folded in front of him, with a small stack of mail that he was sorting through with eagerness and anticipation. Let's see...credit card ad, credit card ad, local business flyer, credit card ad..."Oooh! Coupon for 10% off new tires!" Why that made it into one of the pockets of his cloak was anyone's guess, but there it went and he went sorting through all the various bits and pieces of spam and advertisements that had somehow landed in his mail, when, finally...

He gasped.

"It's here!" he declared triumphantly, eyes wide and bright and shining as he held up an old-timey looking envelop with a very official seal on it, hardly able to believe he was witnessing it, that he was holding it in his hands, finally! "They finally responded to my Tournament Application!"

He wasted no more time in tearing the envelop open, pulling out the letter, ooh-ing and aaah-ing at the very nice parchment, and then unfolded it to read.

"Dear Graham Cra--" His voice dipped down into a murmur as he continued to read through some of the very lengthly preamble and specifications he needed to wade through to get to the good stuff, "...blah blah blah....Section 5-2, b-4....Addendum 847d....we, the Royal Knights of Daventry," you could tell the good stuff was coming because he leaned forward eager, his voice picking up with excitement and fervor, "do officially accept your application to participate in the somewhat-annual Tournament of Knights!! Be there Monday, May 6th, date subject to change, where we will commence the festivities with the Parade of Knight Hopefuls, and--"

Graham had inched slowly forward more and more with each word, leaning eagerly into it, until, somehow, he'd leaned far enough to go tumbling off his bed, in an honestly impressive flip for how close to the floor it was, landing him neatly on his bottom, legs splayed, but with his hand still gripping the paper. He shook his head a little from the surprise impact, quickly raced his eyes over the rest of the official decree until he couldn't contain his thrill anymore, took a moment to hug the letter to his chest, and then pumped a fist in the air!

"I did it! I really did it! I'm an official Knight Hopeful! Monday! May 6th! Daventry, here I come!"

He was going to get up and start telling everyone the good news soon, but for now? He honestly just had to keep looking over the letter and reading it over and over and over again in disbelief that this was real, that this was actually happening, in just a few months, he might actually be a knight!

If he wasn't careful, he might just pass out from excitement before he even got a chance to tell even his roommate!

[[ door and post are so very open! ]]

The Canals of Venice; Tuesday Evening [02/14].

Graham had spent almost the entirety of last week fussing and planning and scheming and flailing about his and Charlie's big Valentine's Day date, worrying about making sure he, a complete and utter Valentine's Day newb, didn't mess it up and speculating about how it might go (especially these last few days, although those speculations seemed to all veer in one very specific direction...), but he was pretty sure he'd gotten it down. There was, however, only one way to know for sure!

And with the whole world at their (not-quite-literally) fingertips, he figured the best place to start was simply by googling 'Most Romantic Places on Earth,' but, since they'd both already been to Paris, and he wanted something new and exciting, he hopped on over to number two on the list: Venice! And looking into the city made it pretty clear what they were going to be doing while they were there, too.

So, food first, at a nice little place that had that hidden-gem quality of the place they'd eaten at when they went to DC, where Graham had to remind himself constantly to not eat too much, lest the food wind up having an unfortunate war with the butterflies and nerves already present in his stomach, and then off to a gondola ride underneath the night sky through the famed canals of the city.

And since flowers and chocolates were apparently a big part of the holiday, he'd managed to get their gondola filled with both. And, being the chivalrous future-knight that he was, when they arrived, he swept into a dramatic bow, gesturing with an arm toward the boat with a "Your chariot awaits, my lady!" of invitation, and then offering out his hand for Charlie to use to help her get on board.

Somewhere at the Edge of the Preserve; Thursday Morning [12/15].

Fosse had kicked Graham out of the cafeteria kitchen again, where he'd only shown up trying to help, but the school's janitor was having none of it. Why couldn't he just understand that, when you spent your whole life enslaved to an evil wizard, sometimes just cleaning and tidying up a messy kitchen was all you really knew to do with yourself? He understood that he shouldn't just fall into the same old patterns and habits again, and that now that he had freedom, he should be out enjoying it more, but still! He couldn't help being a little morose as he walked the edge of the preserve, kicking a stone here and there and brooding a little over his current lack of direction in his life.

Still, distracted as he was, you'd think he'd still be able to notice the very imposing man in a bright teal windbreaker suit coming up to him before he seized Graham by the cowl of his cloak and lifted him up, pulling him in close with a menacing sneer.

"There you are, you miserable little whelp!"

"W-what?" Graham, startled, trying to wrench himself free of this man's grasp. "No! I... I..."

"I can smell his magic all over you, Gwydion! I'm here to seek my revenge!"

"Gwydion?" Graham balked a little, his legs dangling and kicking to no effect. "No, no, you have me mistaken for someone else! My name's not Gwydion! It's Graham!"

"Graham!" The man, shocked at this revelation, dropped the boy, who crumbled in his own surprise at his feet. "No! It can't be! That's....you are the one who stole the princesses from my sister! And it is your son who turned my brother into a ca--"

But that was as far as he got, because the moment Graham's butt hit the ground, he turned, crawling away as fast as he could until he could be sure that the thick foliage of the preserve would hide him, and, as soon as it was clear enough, he scrambled to his feet and started running as fast as he could, as far as he could, from this mysterious person and all the wild claims he was making. Gwydion? Stolen princesses? Turning someone into a ca--??

He didn't know what was going on, but he did know, if it had anything to do with Manannan, he was in big trouble, and so he was going to try and find somewhere safe to hide out until he could figure out what he could do about it!

Room 239; Monday Afternoon [11/07].

After an exciting morning of non-deadly heroics and fighting stuff (and of course getting something to eat!), Graham was looking forward to spending a nice productive afternoon back in his room to work a little more on that cloak he was sewing up for Guillermo before maybe pursuing other adventures that evening. After all, as a bat, Guillermo had been doing most of his sleeping during that day, and that was exactly what he was doing at that moment, hanging from the perch Graham had rigged up so that his friend could truly live his best bat life. And he didn't really mind, either! Having Gray as a roommate meant that Graham was pretty much used to working quietly in his room while another person slept away the most random hours of the day. It was kind of nice, actually. Really helped him focus instead of being distracted by every little, possibly shiny thing.

And as he worked, he occasionally took a moment to hold out the cloak and inspect it with a critical eye, a few needles hanging from his mouth, before he got back to work. He was worried that the cape wouldn't seem nearly as...vampire-y enough, and wondered if maybe cutting the hem to make it seem jagged or adding more of a stiff collar would help with that effect. Overall, though, he felt it was shaping up to be a pretty nice cloak! Nowhere near as good as his own cloak, of course, but he would probably never be as good at sewing and costuming as his mother was! And that was a-okay by him!

[[ mostly for the bat friend, but it is definitely also very open, too! ]]

OOC : Info Post Two-Car Bandwagon Time!

Ya'all, I am having A DAY at work, let me tell you, and, well, since my fellow Gra- with a "king" username newbie posted theirs, allow me to follow suit, and slap this baby up real quick for yoir reading pleasure!

The Boy with the Adventurer's Cap

Meet Graham Cracker (yes, that's his real name), a young, bright-eyed, bushy tailed man from the far-off land of Llewdor, with dreams to one day be a great knight of the Kingdom of Daventry. It's hardly a spoiler if you have even a passing knowledge of King's Quest to hear that Graham is actually destined for things far greater than mere knighthood in that particular realm, but, for now, he is just a gawking, excitable, adventurous lad on his way to high school.

Pick up anything that is not nailed down. If it is nailed down, look for loose nails or boards. )

As usual, standard questions/comments/gif party applies! This makes my fifth KQ character as well, meaning KQ is now my most apped fandom after fucking Bleach.
