The Kingdom of Daventry; Monday [05/06] - Day ONE of the Tournament of Knights!
It was a beautiful, gorgeous day in Daventry. Birds were chirping, the sun was shining, there was a touch of a breeze blowing through the thick canopy of trees that spread over the lush land, while adorable critters frollicked and played. It was just the sort of day to usher in the beginning of a great and exciting Tournament of Knights! The Daventry Inn was ready to open its doors to visitors from far and wide, competitors and spectators alike! Come one, come all, for the time had come, for the Tournament to begin.
Settled among majestic mountains and thick, mysterious woods, the Kingdom of Daventry called for the bold, the brave, and the wise, under the watchful eye of its impressive castle. The bridges over its many roaring rivers might be out, making journeying too far beyond the village and the castle grounds a bit difficult, but the call of adventure was in the air, and, in a few short days, there would be a new knight amongst their ranks. Who would find themselves with this new prestigious title? Only time would tell!
[[ it's time, it's time! Come one, come all (especially if you've gotten an invitation, but even then, the portal is very open! Day one of the tournament! NFB for distance, OCD is up! Today is mostly a lot of "interact with the NPCs and each other" day, with the exception of when I get the chance to post plot-related things later in the day. Huzzah! ]]

The Tournament Theater - ToK, Day 1 - 05/06.
The guards have asked anyone not a knight or not the blacksmith to stand back while they figure this out!
Re: The Tournament Theater - ToK, Day 1 - 05/06.
"Mr. FANCYCAKES!" the driver called out, distressed and frantic as they went careening onto the scene. "Heel! Halt! Avast! Stooooop!!"
Abruptly, and with a jangle of the many things stacked and cluttered inside, the cart did, in fact, stop. The little man driving it hopped down and made his way to the back. "We sincerely," he said, reaching for the door, "hope you enjoyed your stay in our luxury cabin! Please gather your belongings and watch your head upon exit."
He threw open the door to reveal Graham, wedged inside between a bountiful bounty of clutter and stuff, and he gave a weak smile with his face pressed up again a suitcase. "Thanks for the hospitality!"
"No time to lounge, my boy!" the Merchant of Miracles decreed, wedging himself into the caravan to help poke and prod the Knight Hopeful out of his wagon. "Luckily for you, the parade has halted! Another mysterious case of another missing bridge, I imagine! Watch your step! We wouldn't want any tears in that illustrious cape!
"Bon voy-yag-ee, Buttercup!" he declared, kicking the door closed again and swinging himself back to the front. "Don't forget about us workin' folk!
"Especially," he added, as an aside to himself as he took up his reins, "when your pockets are full of riches..."
And, just as suddenly as he'd appeared, the Merchant of Miracles and his cart rumbled off into the woods from whence it came, leaving Graham standing there and waving his goodbye at the strange fellow before turning and seeing the people gathered there.
"Oh! Hey, everyone!"
Re: The Tournament Theater - ToK, Day 1 - 05/06.
"Hello," Graham waved his hand sheepishly at the knight standing in front of the partition in front of all the other Knight Hopefuls, trying not to look at them too nervously to size up his competition. He had to make sure he was in the competition, first! "Uhhh, apologies! I'm...late. I should be on the list! First name Graham, last name--"
"The list," said the Knight, "unfortunately, is inside the theater, which is across that bridge, which was fixed yesterday but is now inexplicably missing."
"We've ordered another temporary fix, but we're still sorting out the work order," explained the other Knight.
"Well," sighed the first, "with the unexpected budget cuts that hit this last week, I remain skeptical about the repairs."
"Can't those knights check the list?" asked Graham, spotting two others on the far side of the river, one riding on the other's shoulders as they rushed past the theater's entrance.
"You mean Kyle and Larry?" asked the Knight. "They're off-duty." A pause. "Don't ask."
"You needn't worry," the second Knight assured him, "these Knight Hopefulls will figure out a solution soon, and then we can carry on with the audition."
"But," Graham protested, "I am a Hopeful Knight! If you'd just step aside, I'm confident could find a way across!"
"Eheh," the Knight chuckled, perhaps a bit derisively, "Daventry Decree 6-6-4-5 states that a Royal Guard, once commanded, must never, under no circumstances, abandon his post while on duty."
"Well," offered the other Knight, "technically, Addendum 2-3-7a allows us to leave if someone is in distress and in need of assistance. Of a life or death nature."
"I stand corrected," the first Knight sighed. "Wouldn't want a repeat of the Ruberstern fiasco....A tardy auditionee, however, hardly counts for distress. Sorry! But we can't leave our post. King's orders."
Sighing himself, Graham nodded. "I understand," he said. "Thank you...."
With that, he slinked back....and immediately over to his friends.
"What do you think, guys?" he said. "I need to cause a distraction, of danger and distress. Of a life or death nature. To distract the guards so I can get through to the other Knight Hopefuls! Got any ideas?"

She considered. "Maybe falling into the water at all is a bad idea. Can you maybe make an illusion of a pickpocket running away and have one of us yell, 'stop thief!' really loud?"
