The Kingdom of Daventry; Monday [05/06] - Day ONE of the Tournament of Knights!

It was a beautiful, gorgeous day in Daventry. Birds were chirping, the sun was shining, there was a touch of a breeze blowing through the thick canopy of trees that spread over the lush land, while adorable critters frollicked and played. It was just the sort of day to usher in the beginning of a great and exciting Tournament of Knights! The Daventry Inn was ready to open its doors to visitors from far and wide, competitors and spectators alike! Come one, come all, for the time had come, for the Tournament to begin.

Settled among majestic mountains and thick, mysterious woods, the Kingdom of Daventry called for the bold, the brave, and the wise, under the watchful eye of its impressive castle. The bridges over its many roaring rivers might be out, making journeying too far beyond the village and the castle grounds a bit difficult, but the call of adventure was in the air, and, in a few short days, there would be a new knight amongst their ranks. Who would find themselves with this new prestigious title? Only time would tell!

Today is mostly a lot of "interact with the NPCs and each other" day, with the exception of when I get the chance to post plot-related things later in the day. Huzzah! ]]

Fandomites would find their portal taking them from the island to just outside the Daventry Inn, where all arrangements had already been made to accommodate all of the visitors here to experience the Tournament first hand. Complimentary breakfast will be served early in the morning, but good luck finding too much help from the innkeeper, who is also quite swept up in the Tournament's flurry of activities! Feel free to mod your room arrangements, share with your friends or get your own, there's plenty of room and a nice comfy common area to sit and make your plans and get excited for the day ahead!

As someone who had grown up enamored with the past and spent a lot of her youth trying to imagine what it was like to actually live in it, Libby was thrilled to get one last chance to do just that before all but disappearing entirely into the grueling gauntlet of her own chosen profession. And the fact that it was to support Graham just made it that much more special and magical.

Honestly, it felt a little like being able to experience a real DnD campaign in real time for a few days! She was clearly thrilled to arrive and get settled and find out what sorts of adventures they could get into!

All of Arden's clothing was hopelessly Earth modern, which she didn't think would go over well in Daventry. And rather than show up and make Graham look bad by association or something, she'd panicked and ~~handwavily~~ asked Boc to make her enough clothing to get her through the tournament. Boc had more than delivered, giving her clothing that managed to fit her personal aesthetic as well as the ~~generic fantasy~~ vibe she'd gotten from Graham and Professor Blackstone.

So here she was, in the first of her outfits, looking around a little nervously. Were they supposed to pretend to be from Daventry? From some far away land no one had ever heard of? Admit to being from a different world and time? Something else? Was she overthinking it?

(Regardless of the answer of anything else, the answer to the last question was unequivocally 'yes.')

This place was certainly different to either the island or back home or anywhere else Vi had been so far.

"God, it's like I literally stepped into one of my games," Steph said, a tad less gleefully than one might have expected but delightedly nonetheless. "Amazing."

Vi leaned in against Steph a completely normal amount. "So should we be looking out for an attack?"

"Like the classic you-all-meet-in-a-tavern encounter?" asked Steph, leaning back into Vi an equally normal amount. "Nah. We're not actually in a game here."

"Good," Vi said, tilting her head to kiss Steph cheek, which was just a completely normal level of PDA for them. "We're just here to support Graham is all."

Steph was not hanging on to Vi's waistband with a death grip or anything!

"Gotta send him off in style, right?" she asked.

"Yeah," Vi agreed, resting her head on Steph's shoulder like they did all the time for no reason. "He's been working towards this for ages."

"If anybody fucking deserves to have all their hard prep work pay off..." Steph leaned her head against Vi's and sighed. Why? No idea.

"Yeah. They'll be as lucky to have him as we were."

Clearly it was just because they were going to miss Graham. Yep. "It'll be odd not having him around."

Which was a sentiment that didn't lend itself to any other anxieties!

"And hearing the way he says the store name every week on the radio," Steph added. "Judging from the number of familiar faces here, a lot of people agree."

After all, what other anxieties could it possibly lend itself too?

Vi nodded. "I can see most of our game group here."

No one here was worried that a heretofore impossible chance to get home would suddenly become possible now that it was the time of year for people to leave or anything. Or feeling guilty about being worried about it, for that matter.

"And that's how you know you had a good GM," Steph said. "Someone puts effort into trying to kill you on a weekly basis for months and you still show up in support? Hell yeah."

Or feeling guilty about being relieved that that chance not showing up meant they didn't have to make any sort of choices about staying or leaving yet.

"Surprised you don't have a horde of people following you everywhere then."

"That's because I ghosted most of them, and most of the others are elsewhere," Steph said with a wry look. "Gotta start my collection over, you know."

"Well, I for one, have no intention of letting you do that again," Vi promised, arm sliding around her waist.

"Right. Because we're not disappearing on each other."

Steph's laugh, as she wrapped her own arm around Vi's waist and held on a totally casual normal amount, was just a touch brittle.

"We're not," Vi repeated, abandoning casual in favour of a full body hug. "I'm not."

"No disappearing," Steph said, voice muffled against her shoulder but sounding clearly adamant despite that. "If anyone has to... leave, there's no sneaking off without saying anything."

If it happened that way anyway, she deserved it for pulling the exact same shit on people multiple times.

"I won't," Vi promised fiercely. "If something like that happens, you need to come find me, because I would never."

"And I'm not skipping out on you either," Steph replied, because focusing on that promise kept her from thinking that losing Vi unexpectedly would be exactly the kind of karmic payback she was due. "So you can track my ass down if I suddenly disappear."

This felt a bit like home and Belle was somewhat startled to find that she was enjoying the familiarity. Was she homesick? She'd never admit it.

If nothing else this was an excuse to wear some clothing she'd long since retired in favor of modern Earth fashions while in Fandom.

This was awesome! Charlie was totally not wearing the right clothes, but a quick charm meant that everyone from Daventry would think she was!
